Web Site Update March 2008

NASA recently informed the Asterikos team that other plans for Hanger One are being pursued.  The Asterikos team subsequently considered shutting this site down, but decided the site also might be useful as a stimulus for other Sci Fi museum projects in the U.S..  Therefore, the site will be left open for a while.  If you have any questions please contact zeelands@sbcglobal.net .  Thank you
The Final Frontier
Imagine a world class Science Fiction Museum in Silicon Valley...Such a museum would not only be a monument to the creators of classic science fiction art.  It would also serve as a focal point of scientific inspiration for all of Silicon Valley.

Hats off to the Future!

The huge Star Trek exhibition that is now travelling across the U.S. could be a model for such a museum.  Perhaps it might even be possible to find a permanent Bay Area home for the exhibition after its tour.  The recent Star Wars traveling exhibition would make another great permanent attraction.
Such a museum could be expected to attract more than a hundred thousand visitors per year.  Hangar One at Moffett Field would make an ideal home for the project.
The museum, in turn, would make a fitting use of the colossal, inspiring, and historical hangar.  Perhaps supporters of such a museum-to-be could help defray the costs of the upcoming environmental clean-up of the hangar.

Hangar 1 at Moffett Field...
...as unique as Seattle's Sci Fi Musuem.

A fitting name for the museum might be "The Asterikos Museum©" -pronounced like "varicose".
"Asterikos" would be appropriate on several levels.  In addition to looking and sounding extraterrestrial, it means "from the stars".  It's also related to "asterisk"-an indication of something more, or of something hypothetical.
And although "Asterikos" is a bit long for casual use, it can neatly be condensed to "Star Ark".

NASA owns Hangar One and the Navy is currently exploring ways to remediate problems with the hangar's skin.  By  modeling itself on the Central Park Conservancy, (a $20 Million/year private  organization that restored, and now manages and capitalizes, Central Park) an Asterikos Trust might be an ideal private-sector means to help 'reinvent' Hangar One.

"The Asterikos Foundation's mission is to restore, manage and preserve NASA's Hangar One as a Science Fiction Museum, in partnership with the US Navy and the public, for the enjoyment of present and future generations."
Note: The black roof wasn't part of the original hangar.
